Is anyone traveling right now?

Since the outbreak, many people have had to cancel their vacations. As things begin to level out, we are starting to see signs of bookings starting again.

In the last few weeks, we've heard from lots of travelers who have ditched their long trips for shorter, closer destinations.

Here's some insight into some recent booking data:

  • Florida  (Orlando, Daytona and Cocoa Beach) and Las Vegas have been the most booked vacations recently. Customers are booking an average of 149 days in advance – with the first check-ins beginning at the end of June.
  • South Carolina vacations (Hilton Head & Myrtle Beach) have been popular since April. Many hope to get there at the end of June, now that things are starting to re-open. People are booking on average 86 days out.
  • Although travelers are urging to get back to exotic destinations, those aren’t booking too soon. We still see bookings for Mexico vacations, but the earliest check-in dates we see is in October.
  • There’s also a surge in bookings for Missouri (Branson) vacations from mid-west travelers.

Everyone has a touch of cabin fever. So its no surprise that people want to travel. We anticipate a surge of calls in the next six to eight weeks for those looking to book future vacations. As the demand for travel begins to rise from people who missed spring break cruises or theme park vacations. Theyve been sitting at home for weeks. Now they just want to get out of town.

Chris Backie, a game designer who writes a blog about off-the-beaten-path travel, says the conditions are pefect for a domestic summer trip. "No International flights are needed", he says. "The roads are clear, gas is cheaper, and as places reopen, they'll be ready for you.
